This tutorial has been taken offline as a new, more proper version will be taking its place on Nov 2, 2009. Please come back next week to see the changes.
Thanks to everyone for their support.
Old information, now obsolete... NOTE: This is a draft version.
I know I have been talking about doing this tutorial for a long time. It is still not 100% complete - in fact, only 40% - but I figured I should post this as a "thanks" to everyone for waiting for me to get all my material together.
This technique (1 of 3 techniques) can work with both Vue 6 and 7. But is restricted to Infinite and xStream, since some functionality is not available in previous versions though you are welcome to try.
Hope you enjoy it, and if you do use this tutorial to create something, I'd love to see it. Drop me a note!
Happy rockin'.
PS. A very good example of a HyperTerrain can be found in the "Cave" scene I made which is available on the Vue extras CD sample folder. The cave is a HyperTerrain itself.
Thanx Dax. I've seen your two training DVDs and I have to tell everyone that they offer enormous insight into Vue. I thought I was thoroughly familiar with Vue, but you have opened countless new doors in it for me. This extends really interesting new creative pathways for me. Thank you. We can't wait for your next release. This brief intro to hypertextures is most helpful. -P-
Can you tell me the size of the metablob you used for the tut? I am just trying to craft it the same so I can get a good gauge on the adjustments for scale that would be needed and want to start this off from a ref I can see.. then back engineer the crap out of it.
I don't remember, actually. I have these tutorial files on some external drive which I can't find right now. But generally speaking, I always use a standard default size sphere. Go bigger, but not smaller. Then once your HT is done, then you can resize it.
ALWAYS save before baking to polygons. And when you don't get a good bake, go back, and try and change the scale of the material to something larger (especially if the bake ended up being spikey). If 1.0 creates spikes, make it 5.0 or even 10.0.

The height in metres is all I need really.
Cheers.

Hope that helps!
Having them the one colour is boring and not sure how to get a nice mix on the mesh to add some colour.
Cheers
